Frequently Asked Questions
You probably have many questions about Maid Connection and the
services we offer. Here are those most frequently asked of us.
Q: How many people will come to clean my
home?
A: Maid Connection's successful business model is based on the
concept that a company can approximate the one to one personal
attention of a private housekeeper and the convenience of a service.
However, if you are having a cleaning of eight or more hours, we can
send two housekeepers to your home if you prefer.
Q: Does someone have to be home during
the service?
A: It is not necessary for somebody to be present during a cleaning.
It is helpful if you can be there if only for a short time for the
first serivce to show the housekeeper your home. It is also helpful
to have a priority list for her to work from.
Q: How will the housekeeper enter my
home if I am not there?
A: Often housekeepers can arrive in time for you to let them in
prior to your leaving for work. If this is not possible, homeowners
typically hide a key or give a code for entry through the garage.
This is something that you can work out with the housekeeper. Please
be sure to tell her where you want her to put the key when she
leaves if you are not home.
Q: I have pets, is that a problem?
A: No, it is not a problem, however, it is very important for us to
know of any animals prior to a housekeeper entering your home. Please be sure to
give any special instructions to both the office and your housekeeper if you
will not be home.
Q: I didn't like the turnover I experienced with
other services. Will I get the same housekeeper each time with Maid Connection?
A: Our goal is to match you with a housekeeper you are happy
with and send her back for each service on the same day and time. This is
possible if you have weekly or bi weekly service. Unfortunately if you schedule
service less frequently then we can not guarantee that housekeeper with be
available
Turnover happens in the service industry, it is an undisputed,
frustrating fact. At Maid Connection, we do pride ourselves with
having a low turnover rate and having housekeepers remain with us
for many years. We work hard to ensure that our working relationship
is positive. Housekeepers at Maid Connection determine their own
schedule, choose how far they want to travel to work and have the
right to decline to work at any location. Their compensation is very
competitive, they don’t have to share tips, they like to work one to
one with clients as opposed to team cleaning. We help alleviate
their stress by using your supplies and equipment so they don’t have to
travel daily to our office to pick up supplies. Also, their travel
is limited because we schedule for no less than 4 hours in a home.
Ways our current clients kindly help reduce our turnover include
showing housekeepers their appreciation (just a sincere thank you
goes a long way), setting realistic priority lists and ensuring they
give plenty of advance notice when canceling or rescheduling
services, giving us time to find their housekeeper more work.
Q:
Will my housekeeper come on the same day & time each service?
A: It is possible to have the same housekeeper if you have weekly or
bi weekly service. Unfortunately, if you schedule service less frequently
then we can not guarantee that housekeeper with be available. Please be
assured we do not “over schedule” and you will never be bumped for another
customer. We will offer you a substitute if your housekeeper is sick or can’t work for any reason.
Q: How often do you recommend I have my house cleaned and how much time
should I schedule for each service?
A: This is a difficult question for us to answer since there
are so many factors to consider. Our experience tells us for most
people cost is the determining factor when booking a housecleaning
service. This is why we schedule by the hour and not the job or the
size of the home. Having the homeowner make their own priority list
means they can customize the service to fit both their budget and
needs. We will do our best to advise you based on our initial phone
conversation and your housekeeper can also give you input once she
starts to service your home. Please feel free to initiate that conversation with her.
Q: What if my service falls on a national holiday?
A: If your regularly scheduled service falls on a holiday, someone from
the office will contact you ahead of time (or you can call us) and
offer you any available time your regular housekeeper has, or we can schedule a substitute.
Q: Will my housekeeper speak English?
A: We require that housekeepers at Maid Connection speak English.
We understand how important it is for you to be able to communicate
your requirements to the housekeeper directly.
Q: Can I be assured that my housekeeper is working legally in the country?
A: We require housekeepers have the required documents as stipulated
on the I9. Housekeepers are paid by check and issued a 1099 for tax
purposes. We believe strongly in not supporting the “underground economy”.
Q: Why do you use my supplies and equipment?
A: Simply put: cost and peace of mind for you and efficiency for us
is the reason we use your supplies and equipment.
We CAN provide supplies and equipment, but at a considerably higher
cost. Since there are no magical cleaning formulas in the bottles that
other services arrive at your home with, we see no point in you paying
extra for what you probably already have under your sink! We also
recognize that many of our customers have a preference for certain
products based on their environmental impact. Additionally, customers
have concerns about the cleanliness of equipment that has been used in
other homes because they do not want the possibility of fleas, pests,
etc. inadvertently being transported into their home.
Q: If she is a professional housekeeper why do I have to make a priority list?
A: Our clients' homes, needs and budgets can differ considerably,
so in order for us to personalize the service to you, your housekeeper
needs to know what your priorities are and how she can best spend
the time in your home. Some customers have very specific do’s and
don’ts, but if you want your housekeeper to have the freedom to use
her best judgement from service to service, please communicate that to her.
Q: What if I am not happy with my cleaning?
A: If an area is not cleaned to your satisfaction, please call
our office within 24 hours and we will schedule for that area
to be re-cleaned at the earliest mutual convenience. Anytime
a new housekeeper services your home, you will receive a follow
up call from us. Your candid feedback is invaluable to
our commitment to provide a consistently good service. If you are unhappy, please tell US. If you are happy, please tell a friend.
Q: What should I do if I become dissatisfied with my housekeeper?
A: Please call our office anytime you are disatisfied with the service, we will work with you to rectify the situation.
Q: What if I need to change or cancel my service?
A: Please contact the office at least TWO BUSINESS DAYS prior
to your scheduled service to reschedule or cancel. Without this
notice, we are unlikely to be able to find your housekeeper another
job, and for that reason we will need to charge a $40.00 fee. We
thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: We do not require our clients to sign contracts at Maid
Connection. We prefer to work on an honor system. By using
our service you are accepting our terms and conditions. We
require TWO BUSINESS DAYS notice to change or cancel the service
or you will be billed a $40.00 fee. We also ask you to acknowledge
and respect the housekeepers non-compete contract.
Q: Do I have to pay a deposit to schedule a service?
A: Maid Connection does not require a deposit to use
our service. We do have a two business day cancellation
or reschedule notice, or a $40.00 fee may be charged.
Q: Why is it better for both homeowner and housekeeper to work with Maid Connection?
A: Maid Connection is a housekeeping personnel agency
working with independent housekeepers. This relationship
enables us to minimize homeowner’s costs (our rates are
some of the lowest in the area) whilst maximizing the
worker’s income by outsourcing jobs to independents
(they earn far more than minimum wage and often much more
than from other jobs they are qualified for), keeping the
agency’s overhead low. Housekeeping Referral Agencies also
reduce the Underground Economy by issuing 1099’s - it is a
win - win - win result.
Q: I really like my housekeeper,
since she is an Independent Contractor why do you say I can not hire her directly?
A: Thank you for asking this important question. We are glad that you like your housekeeper, we do too.
We are sure you can appreciate that Maid Connection would not be in business for very long if we
allowed our contractors just to walk away with our clientele. We have on occasion, however, come
to an arrangement whereby a client has bought-out a housekeeper’s contract. These have typically
been homeowners who need a fulltime (30 - 40+ hour per week) housekeeper.
Maid Connection Contactor Housekeepers enter into an agreement which specifically stipulates
they cannot work for you “on the side”. By using our service and accepting the terms and conditions
you, our Client, are also agreeing not to enter into such a relationship with our housekeepers.
Unfortunately, from time to time a well meaning homeowner has been duped into believing otherwise,
and in order to help out a “struggling” housekeeper, has found themselves entangled in costly litigation.
We hope we have satisfactorily answered this question and would also ask you to consider the following:
1) Do you really want somebody in your home who lacks the honesty and integrity to stand by an agreement?
2) Are you insulting your housekeeper by asking her to be dishonest?
3) Who will clean your home when she quits, is sick, or can’t for any
other reason?
4) Are you willing to pay her when you are away and don’t need a cleaning?
Because if you don’t, she has no way to get another job that day
Q: Do you do background checks?
A: We pay to run a NATIONAL criminal background check on all
housekeepers through Tracers Information Specialists, Inc., not
just the free local Sheriff’s Office online check.
Q: How do I pay?
A: Payment is due at time of service. We apologize, but we can not provide
billing services. A check made payable to Maid Connection or cash
should be left with your priority list for your housekeeper to
collect. Credit Card payments should be called into the office.
We accept Visa, Mastercard & American Express.
Q: Should I tip?
A: Tipping is at your discretion. It is not expected, but gratefully accepted.
Should you need to add the tip to your service payment, please be assured that we at Maid
Connection will ensure the total amount goes to your housekeeper.
Q: I didn’t see my question listed what should I do?
A: Answers and clarifications are FREE!, so please give us a no obligation
call or send an email and we will happily answer your questions or concerns.
